Set up in 2007 by two sisters in the South of France, the Coleen Bow brand quickly carved out a place in a market niche where choice was glaringly thin on the ground: fashion in every size. Coleen stands for hills and for the curves of the body. Bow is a nod to the first ever “IT GIRL” of modern times: Clara Bow, actress and icon of the 1930s, curvaceous, romantic and voluptuous. Opening its own e-shop in 2010 was the logical next step after a string of partnerships with Les Galeries Lafayette, Printemps, 3 Suisses, La Redoute, Castaluna, One Stop Plus and M6 Boutique. With a view to reworking the brand’s strategy and speeding up its growth, it was taken over in 2011 by the SeniorsChic group, a small business that runs several brands sold through a network of 500 independent stores in France.

Coleen is a reference to Sainte-Victoire, Cézanne’s famous hill… and the birthplace of the brand’s two founders. But Coleen also means hills, the curves of the body, sensuality, femininity…

And Bow?

The name of the very first IT GIRL!! Clara Bow. A magnificent actress of the 1930s, mischievous and all curves. To tell you the truth, when you come across her in the archives, you realise just how much our stereotyped society robs us of natural, fresh, upbeat beauty. Would Clara Bow have been an IT GIRL today???
